LOCAL authorities in Scotland have been urged to use locally grown fruit and vegetables for primary school meals.
The call came after a pilot project in Ayrshire showed that using local food had increased school meal take-up, raised the quality of ingredients and provided a market for producers.
Ross Finnie, Scotland's Environment Minister, said: "School meals in East Ayrshire have been reformed by buying and cooking local produce. The benefits for children in eating healthy, freshly prepared meals are obvious."
The pilot project showed a small rise in uptake of school meals in 11 primary schools across in East Ayrshire.
Councillor Tommy Farrell, Chairman of East Ayrshire's education committee, said: "I am pleased with the impact of the pilot in educational terms. We are, after all, trying to produce educated consumers of tomorrow."
It is estimated that the market for public-sector food procurement in Scotland, mainly schools, hospitals and prisons, is worth around £85m.

Immigration Reform

Posted on 2006.04.12 at 09:11
It has been two weeks since I boarded a bus to D.C. with seventy migrant workers and a couple of priests to rally for immigration reform. As I talk, sang hymns, and shared this experience with my brothers and sisters I realized what an essential part migrant workers and their families play in the world. Immigrants both documented and undocumented are the backbone of the economy, without them the country would grind to a halt. They do the work that none of us value, we laugh at the idea of one of us working at a sawmill or cleaning someones home, we would however do it if that was the only thing available I know a guy who is a doctor in Mexico, but lives here and works at a sawmill, that is a crock of shit. The Sawmill is exploited his mind abd his surgical hands by not letting him practice medicine. There is going to be a general strike on May 1st where both documented and undocumented immigrants are not going to work, travel, or buy anything, this will hopefully wake up the xenophobes in Washington who do not see the gift of immigrant labor in the country

anarchist

You scored as Christian Anarchist. Christian anarchism is one of the oldest anarchist philosophies, arguably dating back to the early Christian church. Christian anarchists emphasise non-violence and oppose the state as God is the only legitimate source of authority. Key thinkers include the Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy.

What kind of Anarchist are you?

I must be a popular guy. I was walking to the Fuzzy Duck to get a morning fix when a MSU pig rolled up and asked to speak to me. He said that i fit a desciption of a purse snatching suspect. As a devout anarchist i refused to identify myself abd he got pissy. He asked me wherre i was at six last nighty, i said i was taking a fucking test and it was none of his business, avd i said to him, "i'm an anarchist i ain't no goddamn purse snatcher." He let me go mainly because i gave him my id number. The funny thing is that the description is for a 45 year old man, with gay/blond hair, extremley thin and black jacket, and black hat, I ONLY FIT THE BLACK JACKET PART. I may be universalizing here but all cops are pigs. The power they have corrupys. Absolute power corrupts absolutly. I'm thinking of filing a complant.

You scored as Emergent/Postmodern. You are Emergent/Postmodern in your theology. You feel alienated from older forms of church, you don't think they connect to modern culture very well. No one knows the whole truth about God, and we have much to learn from each other, and so learning takes place in dialogue. Evangelism should take place in relationships rather than through crusades and altar-calls. People are interested in spirituality and want to ask questions, so the church should help them to do this.

I was rejected again from Appalachian State this time from what i call for political reasons. The Appalachian Studies field is totally mainstream with people research that does affect anyone. My research in libertion theology and base communities might have been to radical for them. Academics cannot be seperate from activism.
